Founded in 1961 by Fred Hayman and George Grant at 273 Rodeo Drive, Giorgio Beverly Hills was there before Beverly Hills was synonymous with luxury boutiques. The white and yellow striped awning sported by the brand came to represent the lifestyle of the Beverly Hills area. Hayman claimed sole ownership of the company in 1962 when he bought it from Grant and in 1981 the first Giorgio Beverly Hills cologne was launched. This marked the beginning of the brand’s career in the fragrance industry and resulted in Avon purchasing the Giorgio Beverly Hills fragrance label in just 6 years. 7 years after that, in 1994, the brand was once again purchased, this time by Procter and Gamble. Fragrances by Giorgio Beverly Hills were then marketed in combination with other luxury fragrance brands owned by the company — such as Hugo Boss, Laura Biagiotti, and Otto Kern — into the P&G Prestige Beauté division.
